    Snow on moors

Post  rikidooos on Wed Dec 01, 2010 12:02 pm

    Wed 1st December 10:45am

The Blakey Ridge road between Castleton & Hutton le Hole has been closed since Sunday 28th November due to heavy snow. There are a few members of staff and a couple of customers snowed in at the Lion inn.

Please do not ignore the Road Closed signs as you are likely to get stranded.

Message from the Lion at Blakey:

    Sunday night 5th December

The road to the South (Hutton-le-Hole is now totally clear & quite an impressive sight if you want to see the amazing job the snow plogh men have done.

The road from Castleton (the North) is driveable with care, but remains white over with a thin covering of snow & ice. The road past Lockwood Beck linking the A171 to Castleton is still blocked, but you can get from the A171 to Castleton via Danby.

We expect the roads to the North of Blakey to be cleared on Monday 6th.

    Thanks for the update.

I assume the A170 through Pickering is clear but any comment on the lanes to the north of West Ayton toward Mount Misery/Coombe Hill? How much snow is covering the lanes? Thanks,

The Feversham Arms at Farndale is snowed in. They have been cut of for two weeks. They have no gas left and oil is getting low. The normal shooting partys can't even get to the pub in there land rovers.
If you intend going over there please ring to check they are open.
