Copied from the National TRF Forum.

    Permissive route lost.

I have been advised by a member that he has been stopped on the RED RUT at the Gollingforth end and told in no uncertain fashion that permission has now been withdrawn for the red rut due to inconsiderate use by motorcycles, specifically bikes not using the sunken way but riding on the shooting moor next to it,if anyone knows who it was congratulate them on losing us a great lane, to everyone else be very careful who you lead out and what you show them it seems we have riders out there unable or unwilling to stick to the lanes and /or play the game.

Great, great shame. Does mean we cannot use the Red Rut at all now - previously the fields at the Gollingforth end were in permissive access dispute and we could ride to the end of the Red Rut and back as long as we did not cross the fileds. Please advise. Thanks,

We can only use the ucr from Carlbergh to just after the stream when you hit the county boundary and the UCR changes to bridle path.

We were stopped at the gate before the start of the lane at the Colsterdale end where the farmer and his accomplice were blocking the gate with a quad and trailer. He said no one is using the track anymore as we have been riding at the side in the heather.

    So we diverted.

On the return we thought we would use the rut back to Masham and we did. I opened the gate and by the time the gate was closed we had one very angry farmer chasing us in his pickup.

So he is watching and is very fast to be after you. He also said he is contacting the police with registration details.

He did say he has no problem with us using the lane where it is legal but through the bridle path he will not allow access anymore because of the damage that has been done.

    Hi Rich,

Went for a trip up to Hawes & Leyburn yesterday, after passing East Witton we decided to nip over to Caldbergh & ride the Red Way to the middle.
On reaching the gate at the end of Caldbergh Lane we were informed/shouted at by a woman from the row of cottages that the lane was "no through way", we informed her of our intentions and proceeded up the hill.
After turning just after the beck (some big drifts still on the lane up there) we decended back down to Caldbergh.
On reaching the gate we were confronted by an angry looking tweed clad toff from one of the houses who proceeded to block us from opening the gate. We asked him to kindly move away so we could carry on but he refused & claimed we had illegally used the lane and promptly shouted all our number plates into the dictaphone on his mobile. he then claimed we had illegally ridden over from Colsterdale ( and that his Mrs had not seen any riders half an hour earlier).

The pratt was not interested in discussing any details of rights of way and was quite bitter.
We didn't get into further conversation with him as he was not willing to listen.

Anybody else met this pratt when using the lane ?

    Andy (WYTRF)
